Bilharzial-associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder in Pregnancy: A Case Report

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the bladder is a rare and devastating malignancy, usually associated with Schistosoma haematobium, particularly in bilharzia-endemic regions sub-Saharan Africa. Little written about condition pregnancy.
 A 21-year-old Gravida 2 Para 1 at 28 weeks gestation presented worsening symptoms dysuria, increased frequency micturition, backache, painful suprapubic mass haematuria over period 3 weeks. On examination, vital signs were normal, height fundus was 26cm, tender mass. Extraperitoneal laparotomy revealed multiple malignancy which confirmed by histopathology as haematobium ova invasive keratinising SCC bladder, grade 1. Intraoperatively, T4 staging confirmed. The patient delivered prematurely caesarean section due to symptoms. Palliative care instituted functional status did not allow for definitive management.
 Subclinical urinary schistosomiasis can progress presenting implicated conditions such lithiasis, Urinary tract infections pregnancy. Urine cytology drug administration should be enforced means early detection prevention, respectively endemic regions.
